How it works
Each Ge’ez letter is a consonant plus a vowel. Type the consonant, then the vowel. The tool re-reads the whole word on every keystroke, so a later letter can still change an earlier one: k is ክ, kh is ኽ, and kha is ኻ.

A vowel with no consonant before it writes the ኣ row: a → ኣ, e → እ, i → ኢ, o → ኦ. A comma becomes ፣, a full stop ።, and a question mark ፧.

How do I type Tigrinya online?
Type the Tigrinya sound with English letters in the left box. The Ge’ez text appears on the right as you type. Press Copy and paste it into Word, Google Docs, Facebook, Telegram or email.
How is this different from the Amharic typing tool?
The keys are the same. The one difference is that a vowel a on its own writes ኣ, as Tigrinya spells it, instead of Amharic’s አ: ab → ኣብ, adey → ኣደይ.
How do I type ቐ and ኸ?
Capital Q writes the ቐ row (tsbuQ → ጽቡቕ) and kh writes the ኸ row (alekha → ኣለኻ).
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
